TROMBONE WORKSHOP AT ADAMS ITTERVOORT
On 12 September 2026, the New Trombone Collective will be present at Adams Ittervoort for a special trombone workshop.

New Trombone Collective
The New Trombone Collective is a close-knit group of leading trombonists united by a shared passion for the instrument and for musical innovation.
Trombonists are special people. The trombone is an instrument that requires hard work and, above all, working together. That is what makes it special. Trombonists are always looking for connection and collaboration. In orchestras they form a strong collective foundation.
The education of a trombonist therefore focuses not only on the individual, but also on the collective. This tradition took shape in Rotterdam in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when a remarkable group of trombonists came together at the conservatory.
Since 2001 the group has operated under the name New Trombone Collective. Together they develop the instrument, encourage young talent and introduce the trombone and its music to as wide an audience as possible.
The collective has received awards including the Elly Ameling Prize and the ITA Award, and has developed projects ranging from the European trombone festival Slide Factory to educational projects, recordings and collaborations with leading composers and musicians.
Through close cooperation with composers, the New Trombone Collective creates surprising combinations of instruments, styles and playing techniques, while keeping the existing jazz, contemporary and classical repertoire firmly in view.
Combining demanding individual careers with the New Trombone Collective is a challenge. Yet the musicians find creative ways to make it work. They come together at least twice a year for special and inspiring projects in the Netherlands and abroad.

Foundation Nieuw Trombone Collectief is recognised as a Dutch Public Benefit Organisation (ANBI).
The purpose of the Foundation is:
To further the development and recognition of the trombone in chamber music and to develop the trombone as a fully recognised solo and chamber music instrument.

The board members perform their duties entirely on an unpaid basis.
People carrying out tasks on behalf of the Foundation are engaged on a project basis and receive an appropriate fee for each assignment.
There are no employees working for the Foundation.
Balance, Profit and Loss Statement 2021 - 2024
In the period 2023–2024, the main objective was to organise the Slide Factory festival in June 2024 and to produce related media resources, including streams and DVDs.
Through the organisation of this festival, the Foundation aims to:
Bring the trombone broadly to the attention of the public and contribute to the development of the trombone as a solo and chamber music instrument by organising a festival where national and international trombonists of all levels and music lovers perform concerts, meet one another, listen to one another and learn from each other.

To involve professional trombonists, students and amateurs from the Netherlands and abroad, both again and on a larger scale. To make Rotterdam ‘feel’ that the city has a strong connection with trombone music and that this music is attractive to many people.
Through partnerships, special outdoor presentations and an active marketing policy, the Foundation aims to expand and broaden its audience reach. Target: 10,000 people.
In this way, the Foundation contributes to a rich and varied musical life with many practitioners and a large and engaged audience.
On 12 September 2026, the New Trombone Collective will be present at Adams Ittervoort for a special trombone workshop.
American composer Michael Gordon is currently composing a new work especially for the New Trombone Collective. Gordon is one of the leading composers of his generation, with his music performed worldwide by renowned musicians and ensembles.
The new work, Resonance, is a special collaboration between Michael Gordon and the New Trombone Collective, bringing together Gordon’s distinctive musical language and the unique sound of nine trombones.
The world premiere will take place on 27 March 2027 at 20:15 at the Nieuwe Kerk in The Hague, as part of the programme of Amare.
